| Saw it on the BTS night slides tonight. Why is MCPS still using this reading curriculum that fails students?!?! |
| This was discussed ad nauseam all summer long. |
| Coz they can’t find a replacement. |
IIRC there was a good candidate according to those that reviewed the options, but for some reason MCPS punted. Are they even going to put out another RFP? Or are we stuck with this indefinitely? |
| Because central office is incompetent. |
They're just understaffed.
|
MCPS said the curriculum that they received bids for wasn't "diverse enough" so they punted on replacing Benchmark and reissued the RFP to get more bids from more curriculum providers in the hopes they'd net one with a sufficient level of diversity that is tolerable for MCPS. They don't specify, in any meaningful detail, what that means, but that's what they said in school board meetings. |
It's unbelievable if that is the real reason, and ridiculous if the BOE didn't push back on the sorry excuse. Why can't they just buy extra books to supplement the materials? |
because it's the best option that currently exists |
The BOE is in lock-step with MCPS on DEI being a top priority so I wouldn't have expected any different from them. |
Wrong. |
I know. I don't get what all this whining is about either. |
Infuriating. So more kids will fail to learn to read. |
Why? The already provided RGR for K-2 and schools can get the Benchmark Supplements. |
| Our K-2 back to school night said they are using Benchmark… |
