Chinese Immersion

Is there anyone here who has/had a child in a Chinese Immersion program in MCPS? If so, I would like to know how diverse the program is. TIA!

Very diverse. % of Native speakers is less than 20% if that is your actual question.

Me! Not too diverse. At Potomac Elementary, about half are Chinese, then other Asians like Korean and Filipino, some Indian, Ethiopian and then white. Potomac, the lottery pulls from their neighborhood first, and the population is heavily Chinese. Then, they move to Hoover and many non native speakers drop. By HS, a majority of the class is Chinese native speakers.

Agree with the PP - not too diverse. When kids drop out you have to be able to test in and the only kids who can really get in are native speaking families. It probably starts decently diverse but then that goes down as they get older.

OP here, are there any African American children in this program?

NP- I know of one (then again, they are the only family I know in Chinese immersion).

OP, Chinese Immersion is not full immersion like French or Spanish. I know many non-native speaking families whose kids are not fluent at the end of ES. Just something to consider.

Please define "diverse"
