How come cars sold in Maryland don't come with turn signals installed?

Is it the chip shortage or some state-specific thing? I don't think I've ever seen a car with Maryland plates use a turn signal.

It costs extra.

They use the turn signal location as storage for the pot that comes with the car.

We are too busy to bother with that. Calls to answer, emails to return, prepping for dinner all while driving kids to school.

Such a great question OP. I can tell you I actually am a Maryland driver and my car does have working turn signals, but so few cars here do. It is bizarre. Maybe the dealer forgot to uninstall them on my car?

Too busy looking out for potential car-jacking victims.

Is so quaint to see a provincial person thinking that common features of the world are unique to their local area.

What does the Maryland law say? Are you required to use turn signals or it is optional?

We have turn signals in VA, but if you use one to try to change lanes, other drivers speed up to block you. So, you often have to change lanes without using your signal.
