Treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

Anonymous
Has anyone had experience in successfully treating obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)? I know there are various treatment avenues, such as counseling, medication, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychotherapy, but deciding which route to take is a challenge. Any personal recommendations on what has worked for others would be truly appreciated.

I have a touch of it, and medication helped tremendously. Particularly SNRI's (Effexxor, Pristiq) Cognitive therapy helped as well. Try the Ross Center in DC. I don't live in the area now, but I loved them there. Best Wishes!

I second the Ross Center. Both of my kids go there (not OCD), and they are fabulous. The doctor my kids see (Dr. Lankerani) is fantastic. She doesn't do a hard sell on medicine if not needed, she has lots of ideas, is very decisive and quick to act. We have had other doctors who like to linger on treatments that were not optimal and had lots of heartache working through what we thought was acceptable. But now we know, and count our blessings that we found her.

I saw a show on MTV with a psychologist specializing in OCD treatment takes a group of people (younger, of course) and you get to see the treatments and how they work for each person. I don't remember what it's called but you might want to watch it.
