College counselor/consultant recommendation

We met with our MoCo public school college counselor this week to ask a few questions, and it went poorly. Super unengaged counselor, no real advice, after 15 minutes gave us some preprinted materials from a few years ago and wished my kid good luck in the process. I have been looking on line on College Confidential and the like and it's just a lot of unvetted info and seems like a full time job trying to figure it out.

Any recommendations for a great counselor who can help us narrow the list of schools to look at? My kid is a junior, does very well in school in hard classes, but no particular hook. We really want someone who would get to know our kid a little and help us understand what seems like dozens and dozens of options. I went to public school and then to my public flagship university - I'm confounded my the myriad of schools, private and public. Thanks in advance!
