Hair turn to straw with menopause

Anonymous
If anyone else had their hair turn from smooth to straw texture with menopause, any solutions? Products that help?

Olaplex helped me a lot. #4 and #5

Haven’t found solutions yet, but just wanted to commiserate that I’m there too and it’s frustrating. I have fine hair that gets greasy easily, so heavy conditioners aren’t a good solution. But I’m not quite willing yet to give up and assume that’s just my hair now.

scalp scrub nature.lab Tokyo to keep roots healthy
L’Oréal heavy metals deep clean shampoo and conditioner

Shu uemura hair oil

Low-tension loose ponytail or braid

K18 deep conditioner
I rotate these products around and it has helped. I have been coloring my hair for over a decade now and I have noticed the texture becoming coarser.

I skip heat styling now 2 out of 3 washes. It definitely helps, but my hair doesn't look as nice not styled. Except DH likes it better, so not all bad.

I'm dealing with it too, plus a lot of thinning in the front. I gave in to the instagram ads and have been using the Kitsch shampoo and conditioner bars for about a month and I am surprised to feel and see a difference. My hair seems smoother and I'm seeing fewer hairs headed down the drain.

Mine has not turned to straw, but so much comes out every day when I brush it and when I wash it. It is like after you have a baby and all that hair comes out, but now it is all the time. Is there something I can do? I put it on my list of things no one tells you about menopause!

Mine was turning to straw but now use Olaplex. Hair is so luxurious now. I was able to get the hairdresser only #1 and #2 and use it weekly.

Another Olaplex user here.

But if your hair is coming out at an unusually high rate, get your thyroid levels checked -- a full thyroid panel, not just TSH

Following - my hair looks like dry straw after menopause

I only wash my hair twice a week now, and only blow dry it maybe once or twice a month. I use a curling iron on it the day after it air drys, maybe about half the time. Not washing it and blow drying it constantly has helped immensely.

YMMV with the Olaplex; if anything if actually makes my hair look more like straw, not less so.

That's a good idea, but this became a real problem for me over summer when I was swimming (despite a cap). No good deed goes unpunished.

Yup, my hair texture has really changed. I can apply product, carefully blow dry and it's still straw-like.
