Always over ask?

Do houses in the Bethesda area always go over ask? Is it best to look under your max so you can put an offer in over ask? We are new to the area and constantly out bid way over ask.

Generally yes, but it’s not as outrageous as it used to be with the high interest rates. a few years ago, many homes would go 5-10% over asking. Now it’s more like 1-3%.

Depends on how much the house is. The more the house costs, the less likely it will escalate. If you are looking at Bethesda for $1.1-1.5, it probably goes higher.
