| My son is running for middle school student govt and he needs to put his campaign together and get votes from middle schoolers. He seems to have it down to get boys votes. Now What is of interest to the girls? I told him to interview a few girls and he came home with such lame things that I am not convinced there was a conversation. Any ideas for some ideas where he can advocate and get girls votes? My 5th grade daughter said get Taylor swift to come to school. Yeah that’s not happening! Something realistic that can be accomplished. |

Does he have to give a speech? If so, write is using Taylor Swift lyrics.
Now if you are looking for 'policy' issues make it something having to do with whatever unpopular rules there are in the cafeteria or something. |
| Dress code rules |
| Honestly, my first thought was Taylor Swift. Get some catchy lyric and put it on a poster. Or hand out some version of friendship bracelets for his campaign and encourage people to trade them. These would get my 7th grade daughter’s attention. Fyi those are beaded bracelets with her song titles that they trade at concerts. He could get creative with that idea somehow. |
| 22:38 again. If you are actually looking for policy, the only thing I’ve heard the girls complain about is the off and away cell policy. I don’t think he can change that. There doesn’t appear to be an enforced dress code or hw… so no changes needed there. |

"Policy" rules are nothing but a joke in MS and kids rarely pay attention to that stuff. It's a popularity contest and, as you said, easy for boys to get boy votes and girls to get girl votes.
DD was an officer every year in ES and leadership during MS. It definitely helps to get siblings and friends of friends/teammates, etc. to help get votes of the opposite gender. Does he play a sport with boys who have sisters in the school? What about neighbors or other similar connections? Word of mouth is key and the kids who aren't running have a lot of power to influence the masses. If there is an official speech component to the election, quoting a TS lyric or 2 (in a non cringe way) could definitely help! |

They are really into tiktok and beauty products.
At our school, a big problem is that certain bathrooms are locked and they really restrict when people can go. I think that's a repugnant thing to do to girls who are Middle School age and entering puberty. Maybe he could mention something like that, without being explicit? |
+1 It’s basically a popularity contest and at this age girls will vote for girls and boys for boys. If he is the most popular boy running, he has a good shot. Focus on the boys first. Can he get a few girls on his side - ask neighbors, siblings friends, etc? Depends what girls are running- best case scenario they’d split the girl vote and he can sneak by. Honestly with these things, it just depends who else is running. “Policy” is largely irrelevant. |
I thought of bathroom access, too. |
My advice? Let your son figure it out
|
| Just have him promise to add vending machines to cafeteria with lots of junk foo a d then never deliver. Will be just like any D or R politician. (Something we can all agree on accept for you die hard partisans). |
| Land the helicopter. |
While we're giving instructions, you stop being a dick. (NP). |
Agree, and not to be rude, but there may be someone running who actually understands what the girls value, rather than someone who is pandering with ideas from his mom… |

Speaking as the parent of a girl in 8th grade (and as a former MS girl myself), the question and some of the answers here are truly insulting.
