I love this personally. Smart idea to utilize technology to offer better policing. How can you not be in favor of this?

“One of the things that police hope to accomplish with these drones is to decrease incidents of police violence”

That’s Nonsense. Where is the proof it would reduce police violence.

I can’t believe a drone can make a life or death decision on whether or not a suspect actually has a gun.

MCPD is clearly overfunded if they’re spending money on a ridiculous boondoggle like this.

I looked up the price of a similar drone aircraft - the system like the one shown costs upwards of $50,000 each, possibly double that depending on other options.

Waste of money. Their budget needs to be trimmed dramatically.

If a drone gets to a scene 5 or 6 minutes before an officer could, it could gather a lot of information to help prep officers. So in the example given at the forums, police received a 911 call for a man with a gun. That type of call sends in amped up cops ready to defend. Instead; the drone was able to determine it was not a gun but a lighter. The police entered the scene on a much more low key level. Conducted a brief interview and left.

That’s how it can reduce the potential for officer involved shootings.

If you want Better policing, this is a good step to avoid issues.

No this is not it, I hope the privacy activist groups take them to court. Why should the larger law abiding citizens be surveilled? This is a slippery slope.

That's how it can reduce the potential for police shooting people.

Nobody is being surveilled. It is responding to crimes when people call 911. It is no different than DC using its helicopter or MCPD calling in State Trooper helicopters. It’s just faster and cheaper to get to the scene.

Do you have a financial interest in this decision, OP?

I don't see a problem with it. It's a tool.
