How to find a playgroup? (NW DC) / Class recommendations

Anonymous
Hi there, I'm looking for a playgroup in NW, DC (near AU Park, Tenleytown, Spring Valley, Kent, Wesley Heights, Cleveland Park, Glover Park, Palisades, etc) for my 1 year old daughter. Right now she stays home all day with our au pair on weekdays when I'm working, and I'd like for her to get some socialization.

Does anyone know how to find a playgroup? Are they all paid? I am already a member of a PACE moms group, but the moms are scattered all over and the majority seem to have kids in daycare, so I think a playgroup is unlikely.

many stay-at-home parents use DC park's co-ops starting at 18 months. chevy chase and volta park aren't far from your locations.

Hi! I'm a mom of a 15 month old and we are starting a small play group for a group of us near murch. If you're nearby or willing to have your au pair travel, im happy to send over my contact. There will be 3 or 4 kids around that age to start.

There’s a playgroup that meets at St. David’s church in Kent. I live nearby but have a daycare kid so we don’t attend, but it always looks like they get a pretty good turnout. I think if you contacted the church they could get you info on how to join if you’re interested in options that aren’t necessarily parent run.

Hi! Are you all still running a playgroup? I live near U Street and have a 15-month baby that spends the week with an au pair and I think he can use some socialization.

Hi there just bumping this to chain to see if there are any playgroup options for this summer (not looking for drop off/summer camp - looking for caretakers and kids group). Thanks.

Bumping this thread.

Looking for a playgroup in/around Logan Circle for my 6mo old. Our nanny does not drive unfortunately so ideally it would be walking distance or metro/bus accessible.

We attended the Blue Igloo open house today and are open to other suggestions especially if you’ve personally had a good experience.

Bumping this thread for winter. Wondering if there are any mamas in the NW DC area by Howard and Catholic University that would be interested in starting a playdate group. I am not looking for a structured class or dropping my toddler 3yo off somewhere, rather engaged play with other parents. If. Interested lmk.

We are also in Logan Circle, have a 10 month old and looking for the same thing...any luck finding a group?

I’m also looking for my 8 month old and I just found this. Never been but it sounds promising! Lots of different options https://www.edcjcc.org/programs/child-and-caregiver-classes/

Update:

It has been 10 months since I initially posted I was looking for a playgroup in Logan Circle for my then 6 mo old. Here are a few activities, while not formal playgroups, that worked well for us over the past several months.

- Music class with Mr. Ari at JCCDC
- Swim class at JCCDC
- Gymnastics at JCCDC
- Music class with Ms. Ellie at Adas Israel
- Library Story Times (Shaw, MLK, Mt. Pleasant, Georgetown)
- Gymboree in Woodley Park
- The Children’s Museum adjacent to the Regan Building

While Blue Igloo is a wonderful community and other playgroups like In Town appeared to be appealing options, we found the timing works once your child has transitioned from 2 naps to 1 afternoon nap after 12pm.
