Online instrumental lessons

Anonymous
In the past, especially during the pandemic, people were talking about inexpensive and decent online classes to learn an instrument. Right now, I cannot drive DS to lessons and also don't want to spend a lot of money on something that he might not even stick with -- so if any of you have used this and found a good company, please share. Specifically, we are looking for beginner trombone lessons for elementary age kid.

The problem is that for motivation as well as proper technique, children really do need in-person lessons. We've done both, and my kid, now a teen who has been playing for 10 years on her instrument, really does so much better in-person.

As for the cost, well, imparting good technique, posture, and musical knowledge isn't cheap, nor should it be.

Perhaps you can try to find someone who will come to your home. A good, established teacher will never drive to people's homes, but someone who is starting out may do so. They won't be as good, but in your situation, it might be an acceptable temporary solution.

I get that PP but for now I'm just wondering if there is an inexpensive, online option until I know that he will stick with it for longer than a month or two.

NP. Online music lessons can work for a motivated child or adult - especially once they have learned the basics. If you want them to stick with it longer than a month or two, in-person lessons are what you need.

There are teachers who will come to your house for lessons. Look for a teacher who will do that.

For the time being, I cannot have anyone comeover to the house either. I need online lessons while I know they are not as good. Can someone who has used online lessons, please recommend a specific company, website, etc. Thank you

We've had a great experience with private music lessons on Outschool. So, so much better than the group lessons in person at school

We had our son take online piano lessons with the Toronto Arts Academy. They teach many instruments and host online recitals for those who take lessons online:

We've recently transitioned him to in-person as he is only 6 and had never had in-person lessons before. That said, our oldest had had in-person lessons for 8 months when he was 5 and due to covid, has been online since. For him, it hasn't been that bad, however we hope to transition him to in-person in another year or two (he is currently 9).

How old is your child?
