Can we do it on our own computers or does it have to be on a kids iPad? Do we just monitor their accounts or get our own?
(Spare me the debate on whether one should or shouldn’t do this- just wondering how). |
There is a parent observer canvas but u am not entirely sure what it shows. Our middle school just told us to download student canvas so I put it on my phone and has my kid log in. |
It looks like you can sign up for a parent/observer account: https://www.apsva.us/parentvue-canvas/ |
I don't use it often but when I do I use a parent/observer account. It looks just like the student version. |
use the parent account
if you use the kid's account and click on things it messes them up because it shows things as opened/viewed that they have not seen. that's what my kid told me at least. |
I log in as my kid on my laptop. |
No it doesn't |
You can mark messages unread. |
Not for assignments. Teachers can see timestamps when assignments are opened, viewed, or edited. |
Ugh. We can’t get an observer account created. We had my son’s account generate a code etc and it just didn’t work. Couldn’t find a number to reach the IT department. After an hour of trying to figure it out I just stayed on his account. Any refs for speaking to a live human being in the IT dept? |
So i created an observer account, but how do I log on again on a different device??? Do I have to generate a new pairing code and create a new account every time? |
But the assignments are still there. Either under the course or in the “to do” section. |
This is an issue every year. The Syphax staff really should run workshops for parents about this...the school staff doesn't have time, with only 1 IT person assigned to each school to help students and staff. |
Observer account lets you see high level but most links to assignments or the syllabi don't work since they're on APS drives. |
This. You won't be able to see any assignment stored on GoogleDrive, which is most of them. |
