How does credit recovery work?

Anonymous
My child failed one semester of math in 9th grade and retook the semester this summer (rising junior at the time). He got an A. But it appears that has not replaced his E. Instead, it just appears as an additional 11th grade class/credit.

Is this correct? It averages out to a C for the semester?

Yes. It does not replace the original grade unless you do some extra paperwork to do so. And I forget the criteria they require to replace the original grade.

Can you tell us how to get the grade to replace or point us to documentation about this?

Credit recovery is designed to repeat the part of the semester that you failed. I believe that only people who passed the first quarter and failed the second are eligible for credit recovery.

In order to replace your grade, you need to retake the entire class. At least that is how it was explained to me.

He passed the first semester, actually the first three quarters, but failed the last quarter of the year, which gave him an E for that half credit. So he repeated that semester's worth of work in the summer.

The process is explained on pp. 13-14 here:
