Parent work samples

Are they still accepting parent work samples for AAP application? Not sure if the process has been changed for this year's application.

I’m assuming you mean the child’s work samples submitted from home? Although maybe that was the point you were trying to make?

I hope so. The samples our school submitted were horrible.

From the FCPS website.

Required

A referral form is required for any student (grades 2-7) whose parent would like them screened for full-time services.

Optional

Parents may submit:
the parent/guardian questionnaire
up to two pages of student work samples
Achievement test results (SOL scores already included)
Private ability test results (from a private, clinically licensed psychologist or George Mason Cognitive Assessment Program)
These optional materials should be submitted to the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher at the local school when submitting the referral form.

Discontinued
Awards, certificates, and letters of recommendation will not be part of screening files.

Yes work samples from home.

Seems like a waste of time. We submitted nothing for our kids and they got in. I'm not an expert on knowing what is quality or crap for a second grader, why would a parent submission matter?

School did a great job selecting samples for my son. 3 yrs later, The new local committee (due to turnover) chose pretty terrible samples for my daughter and sent home samples that were much better. We appealed w/ the school samples they didn’t use and some of her own work from home.

Out school had the aart (part time) come into each class (just once). They all did the same worksheet and that was every child's work sample. Suffice to say, we added some.

NP but we just switched schools, I am guessing they school won't have any work samples unless our prior FCPS school sent them over (I'm guessing that does not happen)? What kind of work samples should we be collecting at home to supplement?

They wouldn’t pull work samples from the previous year anyway. They’ll pull what your child does in the next few months before packet is due.

AAP is actually for gifted and talented parents. So calling it parent work samples is very appropriate.

This is kind of true. I would actually say the process is full of gate-keeping and “who you know” behaviors. Parents with the skills to navigate that will get their kids in.

The school submits samples the student creates, right?

The school submits samples and parents can submit samples.

In my parent samples - I only submitted work that got sent home from school that I liked, and I noted on it that it was done in school.
