How do DSA people feel about the rise in crime. Are they still in favor of restorative justice and abolishing jail?

Remember when we all seemed to agree that communism is bad? I think we're getting back to that, but unfortunately we had to let DSA destroy DC first.

DSA member here who is in no way purporting to speak on anyeone's behalf but my own:

the crime wave sucks! I am still in favor of restorative justice. I am also in favor of abolishing prison. Your lack of nuance suggests you don't understand the difference between trying to build a society where prisons are unnecessary and emptying prisons into your community.

PP here who mentioned the once-common opposition to communism. I'm not going to respond to the comically stupid false choice of the Pinochet commenter, but I do want to respond to the DSA member's allegation that my view lacks nuance. You're wrong. I don't doubt that there are many factors contributing to rising crime, including structural issues and some failed criminal justice policies. But we should be jailing more people, not fewer people. While we do that, we should implement serious policies designed to address long-standing inequalities, with the hope that future generations will not turn to crime. But, again, those policies are investments in the future, not solutions for today. For today, send them to jail.

I recently saw a tweet re: Seattle, wringing hands over their soaring murder rate. It stood at 50!!!!! DC is a multiple of that and the year ain't over.

Go to a Metro DC DSA meeting and you'll see it's a pretty radically different racial makeup than you'd expect. Some of their issue campaigns have very few white people involved.

The ones I've met are mostly idealistic and naive. Which would be sweet if they weren't trying to base policy on an unrealistic worldview.
