Is it really much easier to be admitted to the school of art and design (Stamps) and the school of Kinesiology?
If admitted to one of those schools, is it possible to later to transfer to LSA? |
Stamps considers an applicants GPA and Test scores as only 50% of the application. The other 50% is based on the student’s portfolio. This is very different from most other schools at the U of M.
So, while Stamps undergrads have lower stats on average, 3.7/29 on the ACT or 1300 on the SAT - they DO need a very impressive portfolio. |
If it was “much easier” and if transfer was possible, wouldn’t a lot of people be doing that? … therefore making it very competitive and so not “easier”? |
Stamps may be easier for GPA/ACT. BUT you have to submit an impressive portfolio. That is not something that any student can do.
Easiest way to get into Michigan is go somewhere else for freshman year, get great grades and transfer in. |
Stamps is not hard to get into - a few kids have gone from our public school in the northeast. They almost all are wealthy - okay to good students but not umich level and not the top artists in the class either. Someone got off the waitlist at RISD and went there instead. |
And I only think 1 ended up with a double major in LSA (not originally accepted in) and it took 5 years to graduate. Not an easy transfer. |
Stamps is open about its requirements for admissions and what other classes you can take. It is worthwhile to meet them at National Portfolio Days. https://stamps.umich.edu/undergraduate-admissions/admissions-faq

I heard Nursing was easier, but no idea if this is true. |
How hard is LSA?
|
LSA is hard and you can’t transfer for two years. |
Sorry. I read too fast. The “transfer two years” is for kids at other schools. So if you’re rejected and go elsewhere, you can’t transfer for two years. |
Education. |
Back in the 90s nursing was easier to get into. However you had to have a certain gpa to transfer and you had to wait a certain time- 1 yr? I knew 2 people who had to transfer out of u mich nursing to a completely different university because they couldn’t hit the gpa required. Turns out the nursing school was slightly less competitive for entry but just as competitive to other schools once you are in. |
The easiest way to get into U of M is to live in Michigan. By far. |
