Can I hear from Highland View ES parents?

Strongly considering a house that we thought would be Sligo ES, but due to rezoning will be Highland View. Test scores and ratings I've seen are much lower for HVES. I'd love some prespective from parents with kids who attend. We are a couple years away from K. Thanks.

DS is not at Highland View yet, but will be when the time comes. I don't put much stock in greatschools and sites such as that because they are based almost entirely on test scores, and that is only one among many factors we considered. I also recall the data on Highland View on those sites is fairly out of date. I have asked neighbors about the HVES test score situation, because our neighbors universally sing the school's praises. The answer I have always gotten about the scores is that it is a very economically and linguistically diverse school. Kids from educated, affluent families with involved parents do well there. And, they are working on narrowing the achievement gap for those kids who are not doing well. The principal has gotten rave reviews, which is not the case with the principal at Sligo Creek ES. I had one parent tell me that she thinks the time devoted to music and art is on par with privates.

You are likely to hear more about Sligo Creek than Highland View because 1) Sligo Creek has french immersion, so more people outside the immediate neighborhood know about it, and 2) Sligo Creek is about twice the size of Highland View, so there are simply more families who send kids to the school.
I assume you are looking in Seven Oaks. It is a beautiful neighborhood.

OP here. thanks PPs. Yes, looking at Seven Oaks. Seems like a nice, family friendly neighborhood. Everytime we drive through, we see bikes and strollers. So different from our current neighborhood in DC, with elderly neighbors or DINKs around us. If it all works out, looking forward to getting to know some new neighbors!

Here is a video produced about a year ago by the Highland View PTA. It discusses how the school addresses the needs of its diverse population. I think it was made as part of lobbying during the budget cuts.
