Closet organization?

Anonymous
We’re about to put our house on the market and realtor asked if we want to pay for closet organization, which is an additional charge from staging.

Is it worth it? Does it matter if the insides of closets are neat (but still not empty)?

How much would it cost and how messy are your closets? Can you just pack up a bunch of clothes and shoes now and store those boxes somewhere?

If you are paying your agent a 5% commission, all of this should be included at no extra charge.

Take out everything except a few things hanging.

Don’t show your house with full closets. That’s just lazy.

When we sold we packed up 3/4 (or more) of each closet. For each bedroom we left a color coordinated selection of clothes (2 sweaters, 5 shirts, one dress hanging and 2 pairs of shoes). The majority of the closet should be empty. For linen closets have one thing on each shelf (a stack of 2 towels, one neatly folded set of sheets, a basket, etc.). The idea is that a person should be able to see a lot of empty space, but still see functionality. If they are overstuffed (or even just full) it gives the impression of there not being enough storage in the house.

HELL NO. Just rent a storage place and remove all of your out of season items/things you rarely use.
