Ban on bags at athletic events - APS

Is this just for students or for adults as well? As a parent if I want to go to a sporting event I have to put my belongings in my pockets?

Looks like it’s a blanket policy. I guess that’s easier than policing clear bags or “only smaller than” ones. But it still sounds like a PITA.

I look forward to the further uptick in car break-ins, since people will, inevitably, leave stuff in their cars.

Good question. We "obeyed" the email regulations when we went to last week's football game at WHS. But adults in front of us came in with not just backpacks, but the supposed forbidden outside food. They said nobody said anything to them when they came in, and they were unaware of the policy.

I walked into a high school football game last week with a small tote bag, and no one said anything.

My bleacher chair has pockets, so I use those.

Wait what?

Administrators sent out an email last week with a list of rules for attending athletic events, one of which was no backpacks or bags. My assumption is that this is both for security purposes and so kids can’t as easily bring in alcohol.

We are in FCPS and I took the ban on bags and no outside food or drinks seriously. When I mentioned it to my kids how I wished I could bring my own water, they told me that no one was looking at parents because they were really only concerned with kids sneaking in drugs and alcohol. And probably weapons. They were right. I saw plenty of parents with their own drinks and bags. No one cared.
