I have a pathological inability to fail to finish a book, and I just struggled my way to the end of The Identicals. It pretty much triggered me in every possible way (My husband had an affair, I had 29wk premature babies, my FIL had a heart attack and heart surgery last month, one of my children regularly says she hates another of them and I worry about their future relationship). So this book was god-awful, for me. I kind of liked the writing though. Does she have any books where affairs and the death of a baby are not central themes?

I’m not a fan so I can’t recommend anything for you. I’m here to say that I used to be like you with finishing a book and then I realized there are way too many good books out there to waste time with something that is boring you or bothering you in some way. I found it so freeing to allow myself to let go of this arbitrary, self-imposed rule. Reading is supposed to be fun (or educational or whatever it is you are trying to get out of it), not torturous or annoying. Just another perspective for you to consider. Good luck on finding a book of hers that is more to your taste.

Affairs are a common theme in her books, so she might not be the author for you. In one book the son of one character had an affair with his mom's friend. I was not a fan of that.

I recently read 28 Summers after taking a long break from her books because of the son storyline and also I was a little tired of her habit of dropping brand names into every book. It was good but an affair is basically the whole story.

I agree with pp that said affairs are a common theme. She does lots of love triangles. I actually love her books, but looking at them from your perspective, they may not be for you.

Also, you're going through a lot. I'm really sorry. I got anxious just reading your post.

Have you ever read Fannie Flagg? She always makes me feel warm and cozy.

If you're determined to push forward with Elin, I really liked 28 Summers, and the central affair is painted in a very nuanced and forgivable light. There is a death of one of the central characters, but you start the book knowing it will happen. If you end up reading it, there's a short follow-up sequel that gives almost everyone a very happy ending. I really resisted her books for a long time and I ended up enjoying them, though they are not my usual speed.

Affairs, death, difficult pregnancies, pop up in the majority of her books.

A woman from Richmond is going viral on Tiktok after Erin berated her for posting about not liking one of her books. Apparently, she trolls social media for people talking about her.
