I've barely found information on LaSalle-Backus. Anybody have a relationship/child at the school?

Great Schools says its 7/10. What can anyone tell me?

I'm a Wells mom, and tried working with some staff at LaSalle-Backus last year to get a parent organization going--it was challenging. I can check back with them and ask how it's going and who you can contact.

I can tell from their social media, and knowing their principal from Ward 4 Education Alliance, that they have a ton of community partnerships. It's just in a tough location given proximity to charters.

Please do !
Also why does the proximity to charters matter?
I'm inbound for the school. I want to know what my options are in case I have to go there

NP. What do charters matter? Well probably because you just said "in case I HAVE to go there". SMH.

Historically, the principal was not very welcoming to wealthier, whiter families moving into the neighborhood. Maybe things have changed? Also historically the test scores were very low. Ergo, most people in bounds for the school who didn't fit the mold of the students the school served in the past started attending on of the many charters that are easy to get to from our neighborhood.

And what exactly did this presumably black principal do to ostracize white families? 👀

OP, here is a staff member eager to talk to you and connect you to parents on their PTO board: John.Anderson3@k12.dc.gov

What do you mean by charters easy to get to from our neighborhood? You mean physically get to?

Yes, obviously.

The school is closed to parents meaning they can only enter the building when allowed during special occasions. Teachers and principal send a ton of communications. It's a safe environment.

Current PK3 parent. Have had a great experience at the school and with our teacher. There is a PTA and when they do events are the school (like a holiday dinner) there is great turnout. Principal does communicate a lot and hosts monthly engagements with parents too.

. People know this is a yelp review system and not a valid way to understand education, right?
