Worried about Lee?

Strengthening to a Cat 5. It could pound the eastern seaboard next week. Remember how cataclysmic Sandy was in NJ? That was only like a cat 1 when it made landfall and the NYC region was paralyzed for weeks.

There is a very bad drought right now in the DMV, so the ground won’t be able to absorb torrential rainfall, which will make flooding worse. Is it time to prep for a cataclysm? Weeks without power and running water? Tons of home and auto damages?

A lot can change because it’s still quite far out to sea, but the models I saw had it making landfall quite far north in New England or in Canada. Worth keeping an eye on but so far it doesn’t seem like they’re predicting a direct hit to the mid-Atlantic.

Even if Lee decides to come straight at us and make landfall on the Eastern Shore (I haven't seen any models showing this but things could change), the DMV is inland enough that we'll get a storm, not a hurricane.

No, I don't tend to worry about hurricanes that haven't even formed yet and the forecasted track is much too variable at this point.

Saw that too. ILs said lots of folks panicking in their part of Florida (east coast) but the storm is likely to turn before then, it's just moving so slow that the turn won't be captured in the NHC forecast for a couple more days.

Lee is a Cat 2 hurricane now.

The problem is that if the model changes and now it is certain Lee will make landfall in this region it'll be too late to prepare.

We aren't even in the 5 day cone yet. Most of the DMV isn't coastal anyway.

Everyone should have standard emergency supplies (flashlights, water, etc) but beyond that, what do you intend to do to prepare that you can't do in the 5 day window?

Huh? Are you familiar with the forecast maps on the NHC website? There will be plenty of warning. But don’t let us stop you from getting to Costco first!
