Cub scouts

Has cub scouts opened enrollment yet? I want to enroll my kid at cub scouts, but our school does not have one. We are in kentland, so any cub scout nearby will work for us. I have a boy, and I prefer cub scout in case my younger girl wants to join as well.

I know they do some recruiting at schools, but they're not technically affiliated with MCPS. You should post in the Elementary-Aged Kids forum.

Find your local pack here.

Cub Scout packs (unlike GS troops) need a community charter. For our pack, it is the local Rotary club. For many packs, it is a religious institution. Some happen to meet at a school and recruit largely from a school but they are not officially school affiliated. I think our pack is having its first interest meeting this Friday but it’s usually easy enough to join anytime relatively early in the year.

Note that the younger sister will be in a different den so that will be a different meeting for you to attend. Cub scouts (unlike GS) parents stay for the meetings. But there will be some efficiencies of scale with the pack meetings, assuming your pack has a den that will accept girls (I’m not sure if they all do but I think in this area most do).

Also your best bet is probably to post in your parent listserve for your school and people will point you to the pack that most boys from your school join.
