Health and Medicine
| DS has been congested since he was in elementary school. He has been taking Claritin everyday for years, at the recommendation of his doctor. Went to an allergist once that said he was allergic dust and some other things. Soooo, removed all carpet in his room, encased his mattress and pillows in allergen proof cases. Wash sheet and comforter 2x week using extra rinse. I clean clean clean. He seemed a lot better for awhile but now his congestion is a bad as it ever was. And if he ever sleeps over at friends, he is really congested for several days afterward. Help! he is miserable and so am I. |
| We really like Dr Economides (in Chevy Chase or Wheaton). |

Has he tried saline nasal rinses or a neti pot? They can do wonders (have for me). I'd just caution that they're mainly preventive, so if you are extremely congested, it might not do the trick by itself.
Dr. John Irons in Bethesda is very good with allergies and asthma. |
| I took my son to Dr. Richard Layton in Towson, MD for chronic congestion and ear infections, and he was fantastic. He doesn't take insurance, was very expensive and was a loooong drive, but it was ABSOLUTELY worth it. There's nothing worse than not being able to breathe!! |
| I went to Dr Irons for a few years. He's a jerk who, for me, didn't do a comprehensive eval on me. I ended up with bronchitis for almost a year directly due to him. Finally got a proper diagnosis of cough variant asthma (my allergies come out in the form of a cough) and fully controlled. Shelby Josephs in Bethesda on Rockledge Dr. He deals with kids and adults. |

Where do you live?
We love Dr Lawrence Murphy in Burke -- he's a ped as well as an allergist and has been superb with my daughter. |
