DC car inspection - use self-service kiosk in Takoma Park DC?

Anonymous
My vehicle bought new in 2019 needs to be re-inspected for the first time since I purchased it.

Can I just use the self-service kiosk in Takoma Park DC to test the emissions? Is that all I need to do, or do I need to shlep down to Half Street inspection center?

Yep you can use the self-service for a re-inspection, just not the first one AFAIK

You have to go to half street for the first inspection - which this would be. When you bought the car no inspection was required. After that you can go to the kiosk. The good news is that there is rarely a line at half street these days. Still a shlep though.

This is what I came here to say! And yes, half street was not so bad when I went last year

I just went to Half Street with my 2019 car and only waited 15 minutes. Everyone was nice and I appreciated the staff person doing the scraping of my old sticker. Really not that bad!

My favorite COVID over reaction was when this kiosk was closed for months.

It’s like self-service at grocery store… sometimes it can move quickly. Other times the user makes an error or the system malfunctions and it takes far more time than you’d expect.
