What’s the actual source link? This table is unusable to read. |
| All it is are high test scores and grades. |
+1 And they rank high because almost half the kids are magnet kids. They pulled all the high test scorers from surrounding schools. I’ve had 2 kids in two different magnet programs there. The teachers aren’t really that great in general (a few gems, but otherwise same as other HS). They rely on smart kids teaching themselves together. Old principal started every meeting with a brag about being #1. 🙄 New principal is much better, but still working on a lot of internal cultural issues. There have been other parents on DCUM posting similar thoughts. This is why I think rankings really need to be taken with a grain of salt. |

And US News reporters being MoCo residents… |
Exactly! I could have written this post myself. I actually have one child in the magnet program. It’s more like 3/4 of the kids are in the magnet prgms! Majority of the teachers are horrible…the high ranking is totally because of the students…who are dedicated and hardworking, despite having a long, early morning commute and an antiquated building to learn in. PP do you mind elaborating what you meant by “internal cultural issues”? |
| There's a thread for this already: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1152680.page |
I find these bulk averages not to be as meaningful as actual outcomes. When I look at matriculation statistics, these "top schools" aren't really the top schools. |
That usually just indicates fewer low-income students dragging down test averages which isn't the same thing as a strong school. |
| Why is this thread called "Silver Lining"? |
