Russian School of Math levels

Any experience with RSM for a 1st grader? The location closest to me shows the beginner level is full (called Accelerated) and only has space in the Advanced. Do kids new to RSM sometimes test into Advanced, or does everyone start at the Accelerated level? Just wondering if it's worth reaching out to the local location to test, or whether I should look further away and enroll ASAP in the "Accelerated" class for her grade.

Kids test into all three levels. The tester told me that most kids test into a lower level but move up levels each year. They placed DS DS in the Honors section based on how his evaluation went. I would guess that first grade has a lot of flexibility in their placement.

We started in advanced 1st last year and it was fine. My DD is doing honors 2nd this year.

I'm trying to choose between RSM in person and Beast Academy workbook at home. She already has lots of in-person activities and it might be nice to be at home.

Thanks, then I'll reach out to the closer location about placement testing. I'd be relieved if I didn't have to drive an extra 20 minutes!
