seeking photos of small traditional bathroom

Anonymous
I live in a 2000sf 1950s colonial home, with a small hall bathroom on the second floor that is used by my teens and any house guests.

The hall bathroom fits:
- standard sized bathtub/shower along one wall
- toilet and 30” vanity along opposite wall
- recessed medicine cabinet over rhe vanitt, with sconces on each side (one sconce barely fits between the medicine cabinet and adjacent wall)
- no room for anything else, really

The room is old and grungy looking and I want to replace everything - floor tile, tub, wall tile in tub/shower area, medicine cabinet and vanity, toilet, all fixtures and lighting. I’d like to add a ceiling light/fan and possible recessed cabinetry into a small wall space that is unused.

I’d love to see examples of this type of updated bathroom in a classic colonial. As the room is shared with guests, I want it to be neutral looking and classic rather than trendy. But, I’d also love to add any updates that could make the small bathroom more user friendly - like: comfort height toilet, possibly drawers instead of doors on vanity, shelf in shower area for shampoo, regular shower head but also a handheld, plugs in vanity and/or med cabinet for razor, etc.

Please share your tips and anywhere I can see pictures to get ideas for design/aesthetic, flooring, etc.

Thanks!

try houzz or maybe pinterest

Thanks, I have looked at those sites and guess I am not using the right search terms. All the bathrooms are much bigger than mine (separate tub / shower areas and/or double sink), and often are much trendier than I am seeking (eg, black and gold fixtures, etc).

I don’t have a picture, but we updated our small hall bath in a row house by taking out the shower/tub combo and adding a new, large tiled shower with glass sliding doors. There was an old window into an air shaft that had been covered over. We opened it and added a window, which makes the room so much brighter and inviting. I added pretty glass shelves above the toilet from pottery barn, and a tiny vanity with storage (18 inches). The toilet is round to conserve space. It’s not my favorite. The mirror over the sink has a shelf.
I wish we had more room. The vanity is right next to the door. The toilet is squished in between the shower and vanity. It works ok. Would have been better if I had had them make the shower a bit narrower. They took me seriously when I said big. It’s super nice in there though. I have an IKEA plast chelating unit to hold shampoos razors poofs etc.

I like that houzz link. Classic but fresh.

It's easy to do a search on Houzz that narrow the parameters to what you're looking for: small, traditional bathrooms with a bathtub/shower combo: https://www.houzz.com/photos/phbr3-bp~t_712~s_2107~a_24-136--30-231

It’s a lovely bathroom, but the tile work in the “before” picture was also very nice! Classic white and black - I would not have changed that.

Thanks to all from OP. My houzz searches have tended to turn up either "trendy" redos (shiplap walls, black grout with white subway tiles, etc) or else are for much larger bathrooms than mine.

I'd also like some guidance on "extras" like: should I ditch the tub and just have a larger shower area; how large and where to place shampoo shelf in tub/shower; what material to use for tile edging, and for the flooring line beteeen the tiled bathroom floor and wood hallway floor; what color floor and wall grout to use; lighting and exhaust fan, what to think of re: size and spacing; any other impactful features to include in a small bathroom, like should I install the sink faucets on the wall to free up counter space on the small vanity; etc etc.

Any suggestions for where I read up on these kinds of choices? I am not getting any input from the contractor I plan to use (I have several recommendations for him, but he just executes on whatever I ask for/provide), and on my one time in person at The Tile Shop I didn't get any guidance there, either.

Thanks.

Just hire a designer for the layout and style and be done with it.
