Maryland Heights hike in Harper’s Ferry

I did this hike like 15 years ago but do not recall it being 4.5 miles or strenuous, as it is rated. Now I’d like to take a visiting friend to Harper’s Ferry. Is there a way to make a shorter loop here but still get in a view along the way? I think that’s perhaps what I did originally but can’t find any info on shorter versions.

The 4.5 mile version is the short version I think (where you just go to the overlook a d don’t up to the battery). Also note that counts from the lower town, and you need to either shuttle or walk from the parking area into town.

I don’t think the short version is that strenuous but it does have some uphill sections as I remember.

Could do Weaverton Cliffs if you want a shorter probably easier trail?

I did it last year.It’s pretty steep! And very crowded.
