Marketing: going part time

I’ve been working full time in marketing with my company for 10 years. Mid level, have “mom tracked” myself for the time being since I have two very young children who I want to be present for.
I want to spend more time parenting my kids. Has anyone in this field successfully gone part time, taken time off, or consulted/contracted part time? I want to stay fresh in my field and keep a foot in the door, so to speak, so I can return to work full time when my kids are a bit older. Anyone BTDT? |

| I took the time off and did well consulting, but could not return to corporate because there is a stigma to hiring consultants as employees. Most employers do not believe people can easily transition from consultant to employee. |
