| Saw in our principal’s Friday email that the students will do MAP and DIBELS in the coming weeks. How exactly does the school use these, particularly for high achieving kids? First year in MCPS ES coming from private school so haven’t been through this yet… |

In-class enrichment work and
4th grade enrichment curriculum for literacy and math, and 4th grade magnet literacy center |
What grade? Dibels is only K-2 |
MCPS should flesh this out. Not just what those three things are, but how the tests are utilized to determine differential application. The full algorithm should be made publicly available. |
At my school we work with our team, reading specialist and staff development teacher to analyze our data. My team uses the data from these tests to form small groups. On DIBELS, students who score below benchmark must be progress monitored on the DIBELS site every couple of weeks. The site constantly updates potential student groupings and provides teachers with lesson ideas for small group intervention. |
Dibels is a screen for early reading and phonetic awareness skills that can flag students at risk of reading disabilities. Even "high achieving kids" can have dyslexia. |
In-class enrichment is a joke. It is really for accelerated courses in 4th and 5th, and the gifted designation. |
In mcps? Larla's parents will game any algorithm they know about. |
Larla's parents will game the opaque system by running things through connections whose influence can't be tracked well. Daylight is a great sanitizer. |
