Where to eat and squat in Chevy Chase / Friendship heights?

Anonymous
I have a series of unpleasant appointments in Chevy Chase over the next few weeks. I want to treat myself some days to delicious lunches and maybe squeeze in a little shopping in between. Need an early dinner one day, too, and also in search of a coffee shop or other place to work for about 3 hours in between appointments on a couple days.

I haven't been in that part of town in several years. What's good these days? I don't need anything fancy, but gravitate toward seafood including sushi and also love most Asian flavors.

Check out The Hunter’s Hound and Junction Diner. There’s also a Starbucks across the street and sometimes I snag an outside table and squat if I have a medical/dental appointment nearby.

Whole Foods is a good place to work. Quiet,
Plenty of space. Good Wi-Fi.

Sushiko is next to the Amazon Fresh store. It faces the parking lot so is hard to see if you're not in the lot, itself.

+1 wonderful food there

Meiwah has pretty good Chinese too.
Joy by Seven Reasons is there and is a lovely energetic space with great Latin food and seafood.

If you want to window shop or buy yourself a little reward, go to Tiffany or Saks. Bargain hunt at Gap, old navy and BR. There's even a Marshalls for serious discounts

So my H and I went to Junction a couple of months ago, and had high hopes. It had multiple veg meals! And a kids menu! And beers! Just up our alley.

Between us we had one appetizer and two meals, and they were all terrible. The only good thing was the beer.

I didn't realize until recently they were open in the morning, maybe it's better then. But I can't recommend them...I mean if one dish was bad, okay stuff happens, but all three? Like neither of us ate half of any of the dishes, and it wasn't like it was risotto or beef wellington. I had a fish sandwich and my H had a mushroom sandwich, both bad. And we had nachos, with thick cold cheese and stale chips. Ugh.

If I had to recommend somewhere in FH, Lia's is good. They have a bar area to sit in if you want to be low key. And while the outside seating is by a road and office building, there's a water fountain that's pleasant to sit by. The Starbucks in the Barlow building is good, though expect to wait a bit for your drink at peak times (like the morning).

Had a terrible meal at Hunter’s Hound, including soda bread that was dry as a brick.

Our meals were absolutely awful as well. On a positive note, you know what was incredible? The pastries. They were unbelievably good.

Second both of these.

I just want to say good luck with your appointments. When I had terrible ones (in Bethesda) I loved going to the diner (TASTEE) and just getting a milkshake. It made my day.

Meiwah is in friendship heights, nice Chinese and I like their sushi.

Junction has great iced coffee but bad hot coffee, go figure; and delicious breakfast biscuit sandwiches, pastries, nd then by lunch, their food isn't tasty anymore. It's bizarre!
