Book launch party — what to wear?

Anonymous
My friend is hosting a book launch party, and I don’t know what to wear.

The location is a brewery, so I’m thinking casual and elegant.

Any suggestions?

Anything that’s not athleisure will be fine.

when is it? if soon I'd wear a midi dress with espadrilles and wear or bring a cardigan.

If later in the fall, I'd wear wide legged pants and a cropped blazer over a fitted tshirt or tank, with ballet flats or boots dending on how cool it is/isn't.

Congrats to your friend! What time of day - and what's the vibe of the book? Is it in DC or somewhere else?

Without knowing more - a jean skirt (I'm 50 but like them), cool shoes, and a top you look good in, would work for a lot of times of day in a lot of locations. Or a jumpsuit is always a good bet.

I vote jumpsuit or wide legged pants and an on-trend top.

I would not wear something "elegant" to a book reading/launch or to a brewery.

Op I can highly recommend this Everlane dress. Ignore the weird styling and put it with ballet flats or low sneakers.

It is really flattering in person.

If your style is elegant, then elegant will be great. I wore shorts to my book launch - while a friend wore a full length dress. It was all good!

How could that possibly be flattering? it's just a hanging sack.

It's really not. It is cut so it fits more snugly around the bust and then is bias cut away from the body so hides the 'sins'. The stripes are in a v which draws the eye in. The fabric is thick enough to skim over the body.

I can understand the skepticism but I wore it yesterday and have had a ton of compliments.. including one from a stylish stranger.

I love it and think it would be great for this sort of event.

Why is it at a brewery? Is the book beer related? Seems odd otherwise.

Many breweries host events. Not odd at all.

Also - the op asked for outfit advice, not for a critique on a venue she has no control over.

It’s outside of DC and in the northeast of the US (not New England).

Thanks!
