Geometry vs H. Geometry

My MS kid is a math kid. His school does not have enough students to create an H. Geometry class. Is the curriculum that different between the levels? Could the teacher differentiate within the existing class?

Most schools focus on Euclidean Geometry, and don't have a separate Hyperbolic Geometry class.

My understanding was that MCPS middle schools only offer Honors Geometry, not regular geometry. Any middle schooler taking geometry would be in the advanced track (2 years accelerated from the "on-level" track). Does your school really offer both regular and honors geometry for this group?

Honors Geometry is a class that gets HS credit. Since it’s honors, an A would be worth a 5.0 in the weighted GPA calculation.

Honors Geometry goes at a much faster pace than on grade level. What school doesn’t have Honors Geometry in MCPS?

This is a MS kid. I’m guessing not all middle schools offer honors geometry since that is normally taken in 9th or 10th grade, not 8th.

If there is a cohort of advanced students, the MS will offer it. I am not sure what would happen in those middle schools whose feeder ESes have online math class for the advanced kids because there are not enough of them. A trip to the HS for HS first period may be possible.

Which school? Perhaps you could ask that your child attend the Honor Geometry class at the local high school?

My 8th grader has first period Honors Algebra 2 at her high school, because there is no such class at her middle school. Then they provide a school bus back to her middle school so she can get to second period. With the earlier start time at the high school, there's enough time for the bus to get to her middle school for second period. Apparently they've been doing this for years because there's always a couple of students who qualify.

My understanding was that MS only offers Honors Geometry because it is on advanced track anyway, at least that what JWMS did. It was not an easy class.
