Coffee shops without self serve condiments

Anonymous
I totally understand why this went away during COVID, but I am so frustrated with receiving a coffee with a half cup of cream added when I asked for a splash of milk.

What is up with this?? Maybe coffee shops see this as a cost saving measure somehow? In olden times I would also get frustrated by the coffee alchemists who clogged up the line with their intricate rituals, as well as those who always left a big mess. Perhaps I should bring a tiny jug of milk along with me each time!

This is a huge pet peeve of mine as well! I like just the right amount of cream in my coffee.

I meant Dunkin’

OP here, Dunkin' is one of the worst offenders. Starbucks are kind of a mixed bag. Today I was at a local place and ended up just drinking black coffee b/c I didn't want to risk the barista's definition of 'splash of milk'.

I have switched up my usual coffee shop based on this. My new usual place even has alternative milks available for getting it just right.

Dunkin is the worst. No matter what I say my drink is half milk or cream

If y’all stopped putting pollutants into your coffee and drank it the way it was meant to consumed, there’d be nothing to complain about.

Why don't you just order your coffee black and then ask to borrow the milk jug after you get the coffee?

I stopped gojng to Pret for my morning coffee because of this. I know the workers are also frustrated by it because we had that conversation a couple times before I gave up. I just do Starbucks now because I can be sufficiently specific with the online order that it comes out okay.

Ask to have the “splash of milk” put in a separate cup so you can add it yourself. The other thing I do is order black and bring a small mason jar with my favorite milk alternative and add myself. The lid closes tightly so no worries about spilling.

I mean, you have a point. I don’t HATE black coffee, but at some places with a very dark roast (like Starbucks) it’s less harsh with a tiny bit of 2%. Like 1/2 oz.

I wonder if part of the problem is they are having to pour out of the gallon jugs so it’s hard to get just a bit. Compared to the carafe type things at the places with self serve areas.
