New Chevy Bolt woes

My partner and I bought a new Chevy Bolt in late July after putting a deposit on the car in mid-May. Within a few days we saw that the engine light would come on but then would turn off so we didn't worry about it too much until a couple weeks ago when my partner was driving on the interstate (we are not in the DC area) and the car wouldn't go above 30 mph. We have a trial of on-star that came with the car, so they sent a tow truck and sent the car out to the dealer about two weeks ago. The dealer is saying there's a transmission part that needs to be replaced and there's a nationwide shortage, so we just need to wait with no ETA.

I think this is mostly a vent, but a couple questions:
1. Has anyone had a similar thing happen to them (car breaks down within a month of buying it new)?
2. Is there anything we can do besides wait in this situation? I don't think this qualifies as a lemon (yet), but it seems really unfair.
3. Does this mean that we are just always going to have problems with this car? Any other Chevy Bolt owners that are happy with their purchase?

FIL has one and it has been very solid thus far. Appears to be well-built and designed with driver ergonomics in mind.

We almost bought a Bolt but I got a little spooked that they're going to stop making them after this year. Hopefully your car will be fixed and will be fine after that but i'd be a little nervous that necessary parts won't be as easy to come by (since they're already not) once the car goes out of production.

I really liked the bolt though. Sorry you're having issues.

No to Chevy. We had an Equinox with non-stop troubles and eventually the timing chain break.

Our equinox was a nightmare and really unsafe. It would just shut off at driving at high speeds. I think it was a software issue.
