MCPS put this out yesterday (or I saw it yesterday, not sure which). I like the later option for Spring Break and the pre-Labor Day start. Thoughts? |
| Thanks for sharing this! I like the way they've structured this survey to show the different options and to keep this survey focused on just a few main questions. I can't imagine that option G (having school on Monday, Dec. 23, before closing for the rest of the week) will be popular, but I could be wrong. |
Agreed--who on earth would want that? |
It seems a guaranteed way to have a significant number of student absences on that Monday. |
| The earlier spring break overlaps with most of Passover, which is April 12-20, 2025. |
And there's also that 2-day week right after winter break. They should just close for the full two weeks. |
I second this. |
Third. |
I think it is better for the kids to have an earlier break. The stretch from President's Day to Spring Break is awfully long. |
| Ew! Why would anyone want 2 early release days on random days in November? Why can’t we just have one real school day and then take the rest of the week if Thanksgiving off? |
Those earlier November days are where MCPS used to schedule parent-teacher conferences. Then they moved them to the Thanksgiving week a few years ago. I guess they are contemplating moving them back now. |
I agree, the survey was very nicely structured! Kudos to MCPS. |
| There’s no reason we can’t start after Labor Day and end by June 11. I appreciated the option to select “other” start and end dates. |
That will never happen. |
I agree, so much better than last year! Does this mean MCPS will decide earlier too? It seemed awful late last year when they finally voted on the 23-24 calendar, although there was also the issue of the earlier start, which isn’t the case this time. |
