Curious how much most people offer as an annual raise/pay increase. Can you share you percentage or dollar amount? Hearing mixed things spanning from $1 per hour more to 8-10% more hourly. |
$1/hr. If you’re doing $2/hr and will have the nanny for several years, that’ll get ridiculous at some point.
Do you get an 8-10% raise every year? I don’t. I’m a fed and get maybe 3% most years. The 2023 raise, which was 5%, was the biggest I’ve ever gotten outside of promotions. |
Nannies handle your children. A trusted nanny is more difficult to replace than an analyst, a lawyer, an accountant, engineer or an administrator. A 3% pay raise might do more harm than good. A nanny won't be employed by you for 20 years or more and probably does not receive matching funds to a retirement account or stock options.
Nannies often handle your home & pets in addition to your children. |
+1. And I wouldn’t consider responses from anyone other than an employer, for accuracy. |
$1hr per year, $3hr for additional kid added to the family, larger Christmas bonus everyday, have added other benefits along the way too (health insurance stipend, additional PTO) |
I have never gotten a raise. Why should you get a raise? I have never been offered benefits either like the feds. Why should you get them? We can go on and on. As for OP, you left out too much information to help you. |
This 100% |
Not giving ours a raise - we have to guarantee her 40 hours a week at $30/hour but we never actually use her 40 hours a week, so we feel that she is overpaid to begin with. We'd be happy to give her a raise if she wants to work hourly. |
I would say $1 is the expected amount. However, we once had a nanny that we felt was being paid above market rate and we offered her more flexible vacation and a subsidy pre-tax for her health insurance. |
Disagree with your last statement. Nannies usually only handle childcare and child-related duties, not housekeeping or pet care. |
We adjust to market rate as needed but have added additional vacation leave, and health, dental, vision premiums for longer term nannies. |
$1 per hour per year increase for the past 9 years. So she is at $34 per hour plus OT. Job has changed, lots of paid downtime while all
3 kids are at school but more driving/carpool duty, homework help. To the person being critical of a $1 per year increase, we don’t have pets and have a house cleaner twice per week so we think this is fair and so does she apparently. It works for us. |
Agree with PPs warning to only do what is sustainable. We no longer have a nanny but I kept the base the same and paid year end bonus the same that was related to my bonus. When I had a good year we all had a good year. |
So he has to put up with you and thus is grossly underpaid! |
We’ve had our nanny 10 years and she’s at $42 an hour plus OT. She started at $25/ hour. This next year she’ll go up to $44/ hour. We have 4 kids. 3 are in school full time and she is home with the baby. She never has all 4. |
