| Does anyone know who this works for high school? My kid would like to change classes but was told she cannot do so until the third week of school. They already have assignments due in the next week. Won't she be behind in the new class? |
| hm.. my kid said they contacted their counselor today and switched a math class. |
| I think it's add / drop BEFORE the end of the 3rd week OP |

Yeah, unfortunately, high schools are rather unforgiving about changing classes and will make you wait a bit before they honor those requests.
As a parent, I don't know allllll of the reasons behind this, but part of it is that they get an influx of schedule change requests from kids who: 1. Ignorantly made class choices in the spring last school year that they've now changed their mind about 2. They got a taste of the class and don't like the teacher or the subject matter 3. They don't have class with their friends and want to switch into classes their friends are in 4. Counselor genuinely made a mistake that needs to be corrected This is why I try to get involved with my kids when they're making their schedules because I know it's hard to change it once it's locked in for the school year. |
I wonder, if like SOOOO many things in MCPS, if this varies by the school/counselor? I've had some pretty resistant counselors, similar to OP, that didn't want to honor class changes. I get it, it shuffles and impacts a lot of things, so they really don't want to and can't accommodate hundreds of kids changing their schedules in the first weeks of school. |
