Does this make me a bad person?

I made dinner for tonight knowing that neither DH or DC's would eat it. Its one of my favs and no one else in the family will even touch it. I know they will end up eating either cereal or turkey sandwiches but I've already had some and I am in heaven. I just couldn't resist.

I do that too!

Weird.

No, why would that make you a bad person? Everyone in the family should get what they like now and again. Sounds like it's too late for DH, but it will help your child not to turn into a picky eater...

I was in that situation too, until my son started to like the food I like to eat. You're actually doing a very good thing for your child by widening his/her gastro-horizons. Keep at it and soon it will be just your husband eating turkey sandwiches.

OP,
What is it?

I think it makes you a good mom. I'm amazed at the people who will only make their kids things they like and then limit what they will make (how much mac and cheese can one family take). I mean, I understand the frusteration of cooking and no one eating it, but I have found it can take 20 times of cooking the same thing before my son will try it and like it. Sure, he's not going to like some things ever, but that is why we always have cereal.

I do the same thing (except that one of my kids will eat my favorite, the other won't). And then the non-picky one will proclaim herself 'better' than her sibling for eating all of her dinner...yeah, good times! But whatever, if it was up to Captain Picky, we'd have PB&J and fries every meal of every day.

Nope, doesn't make you a bad person.

If I only cooked what my husband liked, he wouldn't have gone from a beef every night to chicken only a few nights a week kind of guy Not that there is anything wrong with beef, I just was a full vegetarian for many years, and I can't cook it. And since I am the one in charge of dinner most nights, he needed to adjust his preferences or cook himself. He is still amazed how much more vegetarian stuff he eats now, and that is because I often cook what I like. Sometimes it is not successful, but nobody is starving As for my 3 year old daughter, I don't worry whether she may turn her nose up at something - she often does even if the week before she loved it. I can always make her something quick if she absolutely won't eat what I cooked, but usually she will at least try it.
