This is DD's first year doing sports in HS and the preseason schedule was really intense and it looks like it will continue to be until the end of the season. She has a difficult courseload this year and she's having some trouble envisioning what her days will look like and how to fit everything in. If you have BTDT what are your tips for our student and for us parents to balance everything?

| She can use lunchtime and the time between school and practice. But it is really busy. IME, the practice schedule doesn’t lighten up. |
Drop the sport |
| What seasons? Is she on a block schedule? Try to get work done in class, and opt for a study hall if possible. Be very efficient with after school time. Help her as much as possible. I don’t make my kids do chores during the week. Their main responsibilities are schools and activities/sports. It’s also critical to get lots of sleep and spend time with friends. The phone is an awful time suck, so talk about that. My kid is pretty organized and focused, and it’s still hard to squeeze everything in. |
| That really is a tough question I’m dealing with myself. We have a weirdly early dinner time because of the schedule, and then we have to squeeze hw in between the spaces. |
| See if she can get a resource class added to her schedule |

It’s a lot about time management. My DD uses lunch to get ahead of some of the work and she also has an hour before her after school practice begins, so she also uses that time.
We really had to work with her on this as when she was younger she liked to use the extra hour after school for Starbucks which we had to put our foot down about. It’s hard, and there’s always tears during the fall season (cheer) but things do get better…eventually! |
