Fun restaurants downtown(ish)?

Flexible on location. Going out with girlfriends in the city for the first time in a long time (kids, burbs etc). We’re just looking for a place with interesting food and lively ambience (where you don’t need a reservation). TIA!

Hard Rock Cafe? OMG, ignore. ⬆️

Unconventional Diner on 9th St near the Convention Center is so good and service is friendly.

Busboys & Poets. 2 Amys. A trip to Union Market. Maybe Zaytinya -- not sure if you need a reservation there anymore?

There's a Hard Rock in DC? How did I not know this? I worked at the one in Chicago in the early 90s at the height of the craze. I would have visited the DC one if I knew it was there, for nostalgia.

But I don't think that is what OP is looking for.

I enjoy the Jose Andres restaurants and have gotten in many times on a weeknight without reservations.

You could also go to Union market and/or La Cosecha, both of which can be fun.

Omg Hard Rock Cafe?!!

Anyway, my absolute go to restaurant for that sort of thing is Zaytinya. I have never been disappointed.

Jaleo

Reservations not required but highly recommended esp on the weekend, but that goes for about any restaurant downtown

Why all the hate on Hard Rock Cafe?

Never been to the one in DC, do tell!

Chiming in Andres restaurants but voting for China Chilcano although Oyamel and Zaytinya are good options too
