DC is going to start at Tilden and they are confused about the PE changing process.
1) Is there an assigned PE locker or do they just use any locker in the locker room? Do those PE lockers lock? Do they leave their binders and things in the PE lockers or do they keep them in their personal lockers. 2) Do kids really change every day before & after PE? 3) The site says they have to wear school colors, but do they really have to do that? If you could share any insights that would save us a lot of stress this weekend TIA

| No one changes, no one wears school colors and few people use the lockers. They usually just dump their backpacks in the middle of the locker room. It's a safe school. |

It drives me a little nuts that the schools keep sending out supply lists telling incoming sixth grade parents that they need Pe clothes. I spent a bunch of time looking for shorts with the right inseam and plain shirt in the right color and my kid literally never wore them. When my younger started, another mom texted me about the inseam requirement because she was also having trouble finding shorts the right length and I was happy to tell her to ignore it.
It’s gross but that’s the way it is. Even the boys don’t change when they are playing soccer, running the mile, etc. |
| At our (different) MS, kids rarely change - they are required to wear gym shoes. My kid is planning to put a pair of sneakers and a stick of deodorant in his locker. And yes, they are assigned a separate gym locker. |
