I cannot believe that this fool, playing with a gun, gets 3 years in prison.
https://wtop.com/dc/2023/08/retired-dc-police-lieutenant-sentenced-to-3-years-in-fatal-shooting-of-trainee-at-anacostia-library/ I hope the family sues the sh@t out of the city. |
| Completely unfair to the victim and her son. So wrong |
| Considering DC's usual sentencing, this seems both reasonable but also too harsh. |
| Disgusting. He should have gotten a lot more. He is not a toddler playing with a toy gun. He knew what could happen. Totally criminal behavior. |
+1 |
| I’m torn. If it was a genuine accident, I don’t know that the man needs to rot in prison his entire life. Anyone who is a good person at their core will be troubled by this for the rest of their life and doesn’t need years and years of prison. |
| Dumbass nobody mock fires a gun around real firearms. Another alec baldwin. |
Agreed. First rule of firearms. Assume they are all loaded. A long-time veteran police officer should know that. |
I agree with you in principle. Super-long sentences don't benefit anyone or anything, other than our cultural need for vengeful justice. Sounds like he was being a bit of an ass all day, teasing her and pointing and mock shooting at her before. While he may be a good person, this behavior is unconscionable by a trained, sworn police officer. |
| Way too harsh. |
This is worse than Alec Baldwin, imho. This guy is former LEO who was hired as a firearms/security consultant to train new officers. Further, Alec Baldwin wasn’t goofing off; he was practicing the set up for the next scene in the film. Additionally, this ass had no liability insurance for his company. This family better get everything from the District and this man’s estate. My heart breaks for a 5 year-old child asking “why did mommy have to die?” This creep got some crazy favorable treatment by the MPD and AG and the judge who only gave the minimum sentence. |
