Americans at high risk advised to wear masks as new Covid variant detected

Anonymous
High risk individuals are being advised to wear masks in public. There is a new covid strain that isn't in any of the vaccine shots or booster shots BA.2.86 and this is why where is a huge spike in cases and hospitalizations right now.

Be safe out there!

The article also states:

While the CDC said it was “too soon” to know whether BA 2.86 will lead to more severe illness in comparison to other variants, officials said that data from locations where it has been discovered have not shown any signs that it is particularly virulent. These areas have not seen signs of increased transmission – such as higher infection rates or emergency room visits – though CDC officials note it was “too soon” to analyze BA 2.86’s impacts based on these data.

fyi the “updated” boosters never protected very well from variants anyway likely due to original antigenic sin. you do get a boost in immunity but it’s not specific and wears off in a few months. it’s also not clear that the new variant poses increased risk. levels are still very low.

Ugh, I guess it is back to masking for me. My doctor said that with my long covid I need to do everything possible to avoid any kind of respiratory illness.

I'd like to note that monoclonal antibodies DON'T work on BA2.86

This is highly mutated strain Pirola is indeed very concerning.

Which also restates, no indication that is it is more virulent or that it causes more severe illness. None. There have been three cases reported in the US, yet it's in the wastewater. Why is that? Because it looks like a little cold, so nobody even knows they have it. I wish I could understand the motive behind the media trying to make news out of this. What is it? It's way too early to have anything to do with the elections.

Why do you all keep reposting what is basically the same story? Which says there is a no strain, which is not more virulent or more likely to cause severe illness. What is going on here?

I will say that I know about ten people that have caught it in the last couple of weeks. Thankfully none if them seriously.

Correct, but some people on here (who are not qualified to put a bandaid on their child’s boo-boo) will assure you that masks don’t work…Even though all the experts are advising those who are high risk to wear them to protect themselves.
