VA DOE Grant Providers for Kindergarteners?

We applied and were surprised to receive funds. Does anyone have recommendations on what the best way is to use them for beginning readers / math? I have heard of Mathnasium only. Don't want to waste the funding.

If you don’t have specific learning deficits you are concerned about, why did you apply?

I’m sorry, I misread your post. Ask your child’s pre-k teacher for recommendations. At that age the only advice I’ve ever heard is to read to my child and play math games.

You can only use providers already approved by VA DOE. I'd start with that list and go from there. I think anything that helps with math and literacy skills is probably fine. I think you have to spend the money by a certain date (for us, we had to spend at least $1 by Sept 1st) and it was a bit hard to do. But for our kid it was straightforward what we needed--occupational therapy. The only problems for us were waitlists to get into OT but I figured out a workaround. I think a lot of people suggest mathnasium (right? I think it's one of the ones, outschool may be another) because it's an approved provider and easy to just sign up.
