DCPS Test to Return?

Are they doing Covid testing to return to school with the recent uptick in cases? TIA

No. Test your kid if you want to, but no. There are no more free tests, no way to get them out to families, etc.

Thank god, no.

Nope.

No, and don't freak out when there are some things going around the first couple weeks, especially among younger kids. This is normal, it's always been this way. Some of it may be Covid and some of it may be RSV or summer colds. It is very typical for children and adults returning from travel, summer camp, etc., and then moving into classrooms together again, to spread viruses and germs.

If you have vulnerable family members (a new baby, an elderly parent) who live with you or you see often, prepare for this by reminding your kids about proper hygiene and having them mask if necessary. But it's on you. Don't expect anyone else to bend over backwards to keep your family safe. And you aren't just keeping them safe from Covid, by the way. Other viruses, especially flue and RSV, can be very dangerous for these groups. These have been around forever.

As far as I know, since the state of emergency is over, there aren't any special procedures for Covid (as compared to any other contagious illness). Our ES's handbook doesn't mention it by name anywhere ths year.

Fwiw, most illnesses ebb and flow and school systems can't respond to all of them indefinitely. One of my kids had a HFM outbreak in their class last year, which was gross and disruptive – but no one was preemptively tracking it because we know to expect that with little kids. (But dear lord please keep your kids home when they are actively germy ...)

This is OP. My question was asked so I could remind my kids they will need to test on Sunday night as I am traveling. I went through the pandemic like everyone else, I am well aware that this is America where we don’t give a F%% about others. I do appreciate the reminder though.

OP - you next to relax. And it’s not just the US. Travel abroad this summer? Nobody cares about COVID anywhere anymore.
