Does your soccer club change your team’s practice schedule to accommodate daylight savings?

This is the first year for DC to do travel soccer. I find it really hard to schedule other after-school activities because his soccer practice schedule didn't come out until recently, and the game schedule hasn't been released yet. The most popular after-school programs at DC's school have already been filled. Additionally, we were told that DC's practice schedule may change in October due to daylight savings. I don't know if they will move the practices to other days of the week or just schedule them earlier on the original days. Travel soccer parents, how do you manage other after-school activities for your kids?

If you are all in on soccer, you rearrange your schedule and know that you will be practicing 3-4 x per week. If soccer is secondary, then best bet join a rec league team, the good teams/players/parents understand this when signing up.

Rec soccer always moved because the fields weren’t lit, but all of our travel fields are turf with lights. So no, practice times don’t move.

Yes this sounds par for the course for PPA.

It is tough but you just work around soccer. Find other activities that are more flexible. We ended up dropping inflexible year round swim because the soccer schedule.kept changing. Made it too hard to manage 2 sports.

Yes of course you they have to adjust they can't play in the dark.

You'll get the hang of it and figure out how to do other activities ... like music and art to be well rounded.

Travel teams should have fields with lighting. It will get too dark before the time change actually occurs

Yes, it’s ppa. Do they usually move one hour early on the original practice days or move the practice days as well in October?

Just move one hour earlier. Sometimes random field changes but that’s atypical

None of our fields is turf with lights…what club is yours?

Over the years, my kids have played for Gunston, ASA, and SYC. All had lighted turf fields

How does that work if the field is booked solid?

Thank you! DC really wants to sign up for an after-school classs at school, which is on one of the current practice days and right before the current practice time. Moving the practices one hour earlier will make it impossible ☹️

It’s usually just the last 2 weeks or so and if it’s just one day it’s probably not a big deal (assuming this isn’t the top travel team). Kids miss practice all the time for conflicts

For unlighted fields, yes. For lit fields, no.
