New to fcps. What does O mean on the calendar

Anonymous
Hi we are new to fcps and I’m so confused by the calendar, I’d like to know which days are closed for students and it’s so confusing. I have the colored calendar and some dates say holiday, student holiday, TW, I assume these are all closed (no idea why they’re coded different colors).

Beside that can you confirm what is O? Are the kids out of school on O days or is it just a regular school day acknowledging someone’s religious holiday?

They have school on O days. Teachers are supposed to avoid major tests or critical events. It's a recognition that it's an observed holiday for some group, so absences may be higher than normal.

Kids have school on O days. https://www.fcps.edu/calendars/standard-school-year-calendar/religious-and-cultural-observances

In the future, Google FCPS and whatever question you have. Their website is very thorough and you will get more direct answers there than on DCUM where you will have people complaining and attacking things rather than answering your factual question.

Thanks for the link for fcps- I did read it and I don’t see any language that says the school is open so I was super confused.
