Car Insurance when moving to a new state

What is the order? Change car insurance to new state before registering the vehicle in the new state or register in new state and then switch car insurance?

In most states you have to show proof of insurance before you can register. So update the registration first.

So register with the MD (old) insurance and then re-insure in new state (MA).
